The Caring Place Ministry in Cleveland helps the needs of those less fortunate. First Lutheran is a proud sponsor of their work. And we partner with them on food drives, clothing drives and monetary donations. Members volunteer as well.
Their mission is to connect our neighbors to opportunities and resources they need. They offer support for the basic resources that individuals and families need through our food, clothing, and Sac Pac programs.
They advocate for our neighbors by providing compassionate social work services. They partner with our neighbors to connect them with community resources that help them achieve their goals. They also provide case management for long-term development.
They seek to restore the dignity of the human experience for our neighbors. They gather for daily devotions led by our volunteers and staff. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend. Additionally, volunteer spiritual liaisons are available to listen and pray for any of our neighbors who request it.
They envision a future where our neighbors are empowered and equipped to achieve their goals. The Getting Ahead program provides an interactive, small-group experience where clients investigate the causes of poverty. These investigators collaborate to form solutions for both their community and themselves.

"Foundation House Ministries serves mothers in crisis. Our typical client struggles with hopelessness, fear and inadequacy. These women often have backgrounds of significant trauma, whether from addiction, poverty, or dangerous lifestyles that have kept them trapped in homelessness, incarceration, domestic violence, or prostitution. They may be pregnant or have child(ren) in the care of someone else. Foundation House offers Non Residential as well as Residential services. A few things Foundation House provides for each client are as followed: case management, peer recovery support, trauma informed educational classes, parenting classes, and job training."
The Social Ministry Board at First Lutheran has adopted New Hope Pregnancy Center as a ministry they support. Love Offerings are annually received for this cause. The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod believes in the Right to Life in all circumstances.
Members of our congregation and Thrivent Members volunteer to build homes for those in need. See www.thriventbuilds.com for more information and volunteer opportunities.
