FLC Church Officers

President: Adam Behnen

When Adam joined First Lutheran Church of Cleveland with his wife Kathy in 2018 he brought a wealth of leadership experience with him.   They were drawn to the Lutheran church, because of the biblical preaching, liturgy, and the Lutheran Reformation history.  They moved to Cleveland from Colorado in 2017.  Before that, Adam worked as the Inspector in Charge for the United States Postal Inspection Service; it was a federal law enforcement executive-level position.  Before joining the United States Postal Inspection Service, Adam worked for the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command as a: crime laboratory special agent forensic document examiner, special agent team chief, and special agent criminal investigator. He earned a Master of Science in Business Organizational Management from the University of LaVerne and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from St. Leo University.

Adam is now enjoying retirement with his wife Kathy.  When he isn’t handling church business he is delighting in reading: theology, history, classic literature, and poetry.  He also takes pleasure in leather working, walking with his dog, and bicycling. He also enjoys spending time with their son Josh, his daughter-in-law Bekki and their children who are also members. Adam also has son named Aaron who lives in Arizona with his wife Megan and a son named Mark in Texas.

Vice President: Kert Stokes

Kert is currently serving as our vice president. He presently owns a private consulting firm stemming from a 36-year law enforcement career which began with the U.S. Air Force. During his career, Kert held numerous supervisory and command positions. Kert retired from the Georgia State Patrol as captain in 2018. Kert is a graduate of the USAF Security Police Academy, GA Police Academy, GA State Patrol Trooper School, AL Law Enforcement Canine Training Center, and the US Customs and Enforcement Academy. Kert has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration and is a graduate of the 239th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. He and his wife Susan also run Blue Spruce Farms where they grow a variety of vegetables. Both Kert and Susan enjoy their active roles at First Lutheran Church.

Secretary: Lisa Langdon

Lisa wears many hats at First Lutheran; in addition to serving as Secretary, she is also the organist and handbell choir director.  She is well prepared for her areas of service; Lisa worked as a church secretary for nine years after working eighteen years as a lunch lady.  She also comes from a musical family.  Her grandma was a church organist.  Lisa learned a little bit from her and later learned music by playing the flute in her school band from fifth grade through graduation.  She and her husband Jim are both active in the church.  Lisa enjoys gardening, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Financial Secretary: Susan Stokes

Susan has filled many roles at First Lutheran; in addition to serving as financial secretary, she is also a member of the bell choir and the LWML. Before becoming treasurer she served on the social ministry board and was a member of the altar guild. She enjoys being a part of the handbell choir; it brings back fond memories of the church handbell choir she was on as a child in Chattanooga. Before moving to Cleveland Susan attended UTC where she earned a degree in business management.  After college she worked as an ophthalmic assistant for twenty-four years; she loved her patients. Today Susan and her husband Kert are the proud owners of Blue Spruce Farms.  They grow a variety of vegetables including: tomatoes, squash, okra, zucchini, corn and herbs. They sell their produce in a variety of local farmer’s markets and are going to begin online sales soon.  In her leisure time, she loves to go hiking, horseback riding and enjoys playing pickleball with her husband Kert.
